Cyberdeck is the new challenge

A cyberdeck is a portable computer that is built using a Raspberry Pi as the main computing component. It is typically housed in a custom-built enclosure and can include additional hardware such as a keyboard, display, and battery pack. The term “cyberdeck” is often associated with the cyberpunk genre of science fiction, and the devices are often used for hacking and other similar activities.

Some people might get a cyberdeck built using a Raspberry Pi for a number of reasons, such as:

  • They enjoy building and customizing their own computers.
  • They want a portable computer that they can easily take with them on the go.
  • They are fans of the cyberpunk genre and enjoy the aesthetic of a cyberdeck.
  • They want a low-cost alternative to a traditional laptop or desktop computer.
  • They might use it for specific tasks like penetration testing, programming and development, or retro gaming.

Ultimately, the reason someone might choose to get a cyberdeck built using a Raspberry Pi is a personal preference and depends on the individual’s specific needs and interests.

Cyberpunk

Cyberpunk is a subgenre of science fiction that features advanced science and technology in a dystopian future setting. It typically features a society that is heavily dependent on computer technology and the internet, with advanced cybernetics and artificial intelligence playing major roles. The genre often explores themes such as rebellion against a totalitarian government or corporation, the effects of technology on the human condition, and the erosion of social order.

Cyberpunk stories are often set in a near-future, urban setting, and feature a gritty, noir-like atmosphere. The genre has been heavily influenced by the work of William Gibson, Bruce Sterling, and Philip K. Dick, and has been adapted into various forms of media, including movies, TV shows, and video games.

The cyberpunk aesthetic is often characterized by neon lights, advanced technology, and a dark, gritty atmosphere, which are common in the cyberdeck concept and usage.

The Cost

The cost of a cyberdeck built using a Raspberry Pi can vary depending on the specific components and features included. The Raspberry Pi itself is a relatively inexpensive computer, with prices starting at around 35€ for the basic model. However, when building a cyberdeck, additional components such as a keyboard, display, battery pack, and custom enclosure will add to the cost.

If you were to purchase all the components separately, the cost could range anywhere from 100€ to 300€ or more depending on the quality and features of the components. However, some people choose to use salvaged or recycled parts to bring the costs down.

There are also pre-built cyberdecks available for purchase, but they can be on the higher side, with prices ranging from 500€ to 1000€ or more.

It’s also worth noting that building a cyberdeck can be a fun and rewarding DIY project, and some people enjoy the process of putting it together as much as using the final product.
